In the field, AJ shows active footwork and finishes plays well. He gets into position on time and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and throws with a loose arm, keeping his throws accurate through his target. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance with comfortable hands. He is controlled getting into a small load and remains centered in his lower half. He takes a smooth swing with fast bat speed, leading to consistent line drives. 11/17/2019 - College PREP - Germantown (Memphis), TN AJ is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way prospect that continue to improve. In the OF, AJ is on time with his prep step, he fields the ball in an athletic position, and creates good angles to the ball. He works behind the ball and makes strong, accurate, throws. At the plate, AJ starts in an athletic stance, he loads his hands back into the drive position, and has fluid actions to the ball. He creates backside drive with his lower half, he has a direct swing path, and has good bat speed. He has a middle approach and shows power to the pull side. On the bump, AJ gathers over the rubber, he separates on time, and has a clean arm action. He finds his balance point and works down hill in his delivery. AJ is a hard worker and we hope to see him continue his progress.
10/27/2019 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA AJ continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. In the OF, he has the versatility to play all 3 OF spots effectively, displaying near pro level defensive abilities. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and zip (87 mph velocity) on his throws. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic / open setup. He stands in with a solid/strong base and has fluid rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is short/quick with aggression as he connects with power driving to all parts of the field with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. 01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament AJ displays consistent performances each time out. An athletic 2020 two way OF/LHP, he continues to prove he is a gamer on the diamond. Very versatile and athletic makes AJ a complete player. Defensively, he is a solid Outfielder. Takes a good first step, takes great angles to cut balls off, works behind and through the baseball to deliver the ball to his targets quickly and efficiently. Plays balls on the ground oft his proper foot and has very good glove technique. On the mound, this LHP mixes speeds well with 3 pitches he can command. Has confident mound presence and works in line with clean mechanics through his delivery. Fastball ranges from 77-81 mph with sinking action and good command, gets ahead of hitters early with this pitch. Deceptive and keeps his FB arm speed and stroke when mixing in a 2-8 breaking Curveball and a very good sinking Changeup (70-74 mph). At the plate, he sets up athletically with a strong base, keeps his stride nice and simple and creates good rhythm. Delivers the barrel to the baseball with plus bat speed (82mph Bat Exit Velocity) creating consistent hard contact.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City AJ is an athletic two-way prospect who plays the game hard and shows lots of potential on the field. He is a very reliable defender in the outfield with lots of range and the instincts to get good jumps and take good angles to the ball. His feet are fluid and active as he works aggressively to the ball to field in a low, athletic position. His angles are efficient and his routes are direct to fly balls and he plays through to gain momentum to throw accurately to his target. At the dish, he displays an aggressive approach with a balanced stance and swing. His barrel to ball skills are advanced and he has a fast bath through the zone to make consistent line drive contact to all fields. On the bump, he shows great control of his three pitch mix including a mid 60's fastball with sink, a 1-7 curveball and a deceptive changeup with tail to keep hitters off balance. He works with good direction with a balanced delivery and on time separation that allows him to get to a consistent release point and increase his deception. Using his lower half more will increase velocity and add length to his stride to make his pitches explode on hitters. AJ is a nice, young prospect with lots of potential on the diamond.
10/09/2016 - College PREP - Hoover (Birmingham), AL AJ is a lean OF/LHP who will graduate in 2020. In the OF, he shows smooth / clean actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he reads balls well off the bat. He is aggressive but will benefit by playing through balls with momentum working to his target. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work to and through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Working to get stride foot down sooner will aid in improving hitting abilities. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 59-61 mph. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on mound. With 4 years to further develop, AJ has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.
Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
