Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/2BPosition Projection

03/30/2014 - College PREP - Greensboro, NC Medlin continues to show as a 2B/OF at the event. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range. He is aggressive attacking ground balls but needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. At 2B, he works to square balls up and makes the routine plays, presenting hands well out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more, playing through. At the plate, he showed as a switch hitter for the first time but projects best from the right side. He maintains balance through the swing and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Adam is a solid OF that will graduate in 2015. At the plate is where Medlin shows best through a squared / athletic setup. He is a switch hitter that projects slightly better from the left side. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a short / level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a solid line drive approach. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more and adds overall body strength. At the event, he was 3 for 8. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.91 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles as he plays under control. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to work to get behind balls and play through more with momentum to his target while working on his routes. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program and work to get rid of the baseball quicker to improve arm grade. Mental makeup is outstanding as he has a positive attitude, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. Adam has abilities and will continue to improve in the next couple of seasons before college.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
