Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic AJ is a hard working 2-way player who continues to develop on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he now runs his 60 in 7.35. Offensively, this athletic righty has a solid base while maintaining good balance throughout the swing. He battles with 2 strikes and gets the barrel on the ball. Swing is level as he connects and drives the middle of the field. At 2B - AJ is aggressive and comes to get the GB. He fields the ball out in front with soft/sure hands and gathers well, working in-line toward 1B. On the mound, this RHP has an effective 4-pitch mix and throws strikes consistently. Arm works cleanly as he stays directional toward the dish. Curveball has good action complimenting his FB well. He works ahead in the count and makes hitters have defensive swings. AJ has upside and will find success in this his junior year.

07/29/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 AJ is a competitor who has a 'can do' attitude. He's a coachable player who works hard day in and day out. Defensively, he shows active footwork and moves well into a square fielding position. He tracks the ball into his glove, funnels smoothly and works in-line toward 1B. At the plate, this righty steps into the box with a purpose. He likes the pitch middle-in and pulls it with pop. He remains balanced throughout his swing and finishes complete. Added bat speed and a more direct swing path will result in even more power potential. At the event, he went 4 for 8 with a double, 3 singles and a walk. On the bump, when Beck toes the rubber he means business. He maintains fluid tempo and repeats his delivery well. FB now touches 81 mph as he pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball has sharp 12/6 shape and will be a solid out pitch. He uses he lower 1/2 well and drives off of the rubber, downhill toward the dish. AJ has the makeup and tools that will provide success on the diamond.

06/13/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 AJ showed consistency on all sides of the ball at the Omaha Baseball Factory National World Series. Offensively, he had late explode with the barrel and was direct with his path to hit with a line-drive approach. He was loose, fluid, and coordinated with his hands and hips. Defensively, he moved quickly to his right and left and positioned his glove well to secure the ball. On the hill, he topped out at 78 with his fastball, spun a slider from 65-68, and showed a CB from 65-66. He threw a lot of strikes, and worked to become more fluid with runners on base - not rushing. In all - AJ has a 6'/170 lbs frame that has a lot of projection as he continues to progress through high school.

04/19/2015 - College PREP - Lodi (Sacramento), CA AJ is a (6'0"/170) 2-way player as a RHP/2B. On the bump, this righty has a 4-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He has smooth mechanics, keeps his eyes on the target and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 75-77 mph as he works it to both sides of the dish. Curveball has 11/5 shape with gradual action (60-63 mph). Changeup has slight run as he throws it with FB arm speed. Added velocity will come with more lower 1/2 drive off the rubber. At 2B, AJ shows active footwork as he moves into a square fielding position. He works low from the ground-up, gathers well, and has a clean exchange to throw. Playing through the ball more will help to improve his skills at 2B. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He has rhythm to load and jumps on pitches in the zone. Swing is quick as he connects and hits line-drives to all parts of the field. Only a 2017 grad - AJ has a ton of upside and will find success on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
