01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (TX) AJ continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. Quick lateral movements allow him to center/deaden pitches in the dirt off of a soft chest. Runners will not want to test his cannon for an arm with pop times remaining in the low 2's. Offensively, he continues to shine through an open setup. He has athletic/smooth actions with fluid rhythm to load. He gets good hand separation and delivers the barrel with leverage, resulting in a barrel explosion (90 mph exit velocity) with the ball screaming off of his barrel. He is aggressive as he attacks the fastball early in the count. Once on base he remains aggressive and is always looking to advance, stealing 2 bags at the event. A solid catching prospect and only a 2022 grad - the future looks very bright for Jones.

09/20/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Boise, ID AJ is an athletic C/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body during the blocking process centering balls out front. Receiving/blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. Pop times showed in the 2.02 range with accuracy on his throws. In the OF, defensive abilities are outstanding as he displays smooth/fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to get behind balls and plays with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. Throws are accurate with carry (84 mph velocity). At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.00. With 2 years to further develop, AJ has the makings of a special type player as he continues to improve and progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
