Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2022 - Baseball Factory West Coast Winter Classic AJ is a C/RHP in the 2028 class. In the field, he has the frame to become a solid catcher. He has glove presentation and pocket awareness. Working on his flexibility will allow him to sink his hips more and stay in his legs. On the mound, he has leverage and works hard to get outs by being in the zone. He operates with 2 pitches from a ¾ arm slot. His FB sits 56-61 and worked well low and away to hitters. His CB sat 53-4 with 10-4 shape. At the plate, he begins in a squared stance and gets into his load well. His stride is short and on time. Has a controlled rhythm and fast hands through the zone. Overall, AJ is a solid player.

11/18/2022 - 2022 Baseball Fall Prospects Tournament (MS) AJ continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.71 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 60 mph. Fastball showed a range of 58-60 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound.

06/24/2022 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (MS) AJ worked out behind the plate and on the mound during his time in Omaha. He is a young, compact player with progressing skills. Behind the plate, AJ sits in well, footwork is efficient, and he plays on the balls of his feet. He plays with good energy, tracks to his glove, and throws with accuracy to 2nd base. On the mound, AJ has eyes on target, a FB touching 58 MPH, and he mixes in his off-speed well. He has good glove side lead, solid direction toward home plate, and he lands with a controlled landing. Offensively, AJ has a tall/open stance, a level swing, and good balance. He swings aggressively, he makes hard contact, and he can work the ball gap to gap.

12/12/2021 - Official Player Development Membership - San Bernardino, CA AJ is a C/3B in the class of 2028 out of California. At C, he did a good job of tracking the ball to his mitt while receiving pitches. On his throw downs he got good push towards second base while allowing his shoulders to get in line. When blocking, he moved well laterally and allowed the glove to get down first to keep the ball in front of him. At 3B, he made the routine play while using two hands on the ball in front and showed glimpses of good back hand fundamentals on the ball to his arm side. Offensively, he used a tall stance with smooth timing and an aggressive mentality to try and work a line drive approach. AJ could benefit from an agility/long toss program to help build repeatable actions and arm strength. With 3+ years of development we believe this young athlete can take his game to the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
