Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Monarrez continues to show a quality arm on the mound. Fastball showed a range of 81-85 mph on a slight downhill plane. Off speed pitches are quality and he utilizes them well keeping hitters off balance. He displays good control and command of all his pitches and is aggressive with his fastball. At the event, he has 4 quality innings giving up only 2 hits while striking out 10.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 AJ's fastball showed a range of 81-84 mph at the event. Off speed pitches show potential of being quality pitches at the next level. He goes after hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches and holds runners well.

10/21/2009 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2009 Monarrez continues to show a lot of improvements in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved to well above average as his throws displays life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. Feet are active as he takes proper angles in working around and through the baseball with his feet and hands, improving defensive abilities to well above average. At the plate, hitting abilities and power have improved to well above average abilities through a solid setup. Bat speed is a plus as he shows a plus feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 83-86 mph with late life. Off speed pitches are quality pitches and will get outs at the next level. AJ has tremendous instincts for the game with the makings of a special type player as he continues to improve.

09/13/2009 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Amador is a two-position athlete with similar projection on the mound and in the infield. With the glove, he has soft hands and a good exchange. He moves well laterally and has a good feel on the backhand. He doesn't have any real prep to his footwork which hurts his jumps. At the plate he shows good barrel accuracy, using all fields with great extension. He needs to widen out his base to get his lower half more involved. His bat drags and he tends to get uphill because he is upper-body oriented. Still gets a lot out of his swing. On the mound his fastball ranges from the low to mid 80's topping out at 86 at this workout with some sink. The breaking ball is average right now. He needs to stay on top of it more consistently. Changeup has some sink, and he has a little cutter with some downward action. Rhythm in the delivery is clean and easy, and he has a quick arm. Front side pulls off early which hurts his direction and extension. His lower half doesn't really work either. If he learns to stay on line, he will get more out of his lower half and he will see improvement in velocity and movement on each pitch. Still two springs ahead of him to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
