Official Scouting Report

  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/22/2019 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) AJ worked hard to improve his game out in Omaha. At 2B AJ showed good, relaxed movements with effective and smooth feet. His prep work gets him a +1st step on the ball and presents his hands out front to field the ball. His exchanges are clean as he creates momentum towards his target and makes strong, accurate throws with +DP feeds. At the plate AJ had a good load and got his foot down on time to rotate his lower half through and get on plane with the pitch. He showed the ability to hit line drives to all fields. On the bump AJ showed a FB/CH mix with the FB showing some AS run and the CH was deceptive with his FB arm speed. He gathered over the rubber well and created good rotation finishing in line at his target. AJ has time to continue to develop and refine his abilities as a 2021 graduate.

12/02/2018 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA AJ is an athletic 2B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, AJ flashes good range to his glove side and makes the routine plays. He throws from a high 3/4 angle and keeps his throws on-line to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help AJ improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and is fluid getting into his load. He takes a direct swing and hits from a strong front side, leading to consistent contact to all fields. AJ can improve as a hitter by taking a shorter stride. On the mound, AJ gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He extends through well on his release and stays inline towards the plate. AJ shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with tailing action. Changeup sits from 63-67mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Loosening his arm action can help AJ improve as a pitcher. Overall, AJ is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
