01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Jay continues to show improvements his baseball tools, showing potential of a special type player at the next level. Foot speed has improved, now an outstanding runner as indicated by his 6.94 60 time. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in his lateral movement, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together, displaying clean / smooth action and big play potential . Arm strength has improved as well, now showing an outstanding arm with accuracy, life, and on line carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Jay is a remarkable young hitter that shows athleticism at the hot corner. With the stick, he has explosive bat speed and fluid rhythm, showing barrel accuracy time and time again. Jay could find himself hitting in the middle of a collegiate line-up early in his career. Defensively, he has a good fielding position, soft hands and quick lateral movement. In all, Jay is a good teammate that attracts his peers and listens to coaches. We see Jay potential being an immediate impact guy at a corner infield spot at the next level.

06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Jay showed well both offensively and defensively during his time in Omaha. At the plate, Jay shows a square set-up, good balance, and explosive bat speed. He stays on top of the ball, he gets his lower 1/2 through, and he shows solid power. Defensively, Jay has soft hands, a sure gloves and solid body control. He fields athletically, and his arm is long and loose with accuracy and carry to his target.

06/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One Florida Hayes has a solid, strong frame at 6-0 and 215 pounds. He posted 7.20 in the 60 yard dash, and got down the line in 4.70 from the right side of the plate. He showed good arm strength from 3B, the ball left his hand well and spun across the infield with carry. Has room to bend more at the waist, which will get glove more out front to play the ball. At the plate, he showed a knack for hard contact. Stroke was loose and full, and the ball got off the barrel very well - created backspin and carry to the biggest part of the ballpark. He had some length to his stroke, but it worked for him since it allowed him to use leverage to drive the ball. Overall, a talented hitter with power potential.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
