01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Alan Montes de Oca is a 5'8/140 lbs 3B/RHP that will graduate next spring. Defensively at the hot corner, he showed soft hands, making plays with efficient footwork and good body control. He had a quick exchange, and threw with a good arm stroke and body momentum. During defensive drills he worked on getting his hips lower to field the backhand play and worked on following his throws. Offensively, he had good balance in the box and had good feel for the strike zone, offering at his pitches. In the cage, he worked to get the top hand more involved in the swing and worked to use more lower half in coordination with his hands. On the hill, he threw a FB with run, and spun a breaking ball with 9-3 shape. He repeated his actions and worked ahead of hitters, not being afraid to attack on the inner half. Improving his tempo and his front side strength will allow for more consistency around the zone. All in all - Alan is an athletic player that has good upside as his frame continues to fill out and he fine tunes his skill.
