Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

10/20/2013 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Albert is a hard worker and continues to progress in his game. On the bump, FB now tops out at 79 mph and shows some sinking action. He maintains good tempo, drives off the rubber, and works in-line toward the dish. He fills up the zone and throws strikes with all of his pitches. CB shows hard break and 12/6 shape. He commands the zone and works both sides of the plate. At 1B, he shows a good approach and plays on the balls of his feet. His glove works well as he can pick balls out of the dirt. Offensively, this righty stays on-top and through the ball, creating good extension. He has a line-drive approach and consistently squares the ball up. Albert has molded himself into a solid player both at 1B and on the mound.

09/28/2013 - Pitcher/Catcher Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Albert is a tall athletic pitcher with a short/quick arm action. He displays a controlled balance point, level shoulders, good direction to the plate, and a complete finish. His curveball has a 11/5 late break and his change up shows good sink and arm speed. Albert is able to locate all three pitches for strikes, keeping hitters off balance. Getting a better push with his back side will help him lengthen his stride and increase velocity. Albert is a hard worker and projects well at the next level.

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Albert continues to show steady play in his abilities. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 71-73 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program. Albert really took control of the game while on the mound in Florida as he had good rhythm and good tempo. At 1B, he makes the routine plays and presents hands well out front. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more, play through, and improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side and has improved his power grade. Hitting grades will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker and is very coachable.

06/09/2013 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Albert is a tall, thin, 2-way player who pitches and plays 1B. On the hill, Albert has a short / quick arm, a controlled balance point, and he keeps his eyes on target. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he finishes completely. A longer / looser arm, more glove side lead, and getting on top of his CB can improve mound effectiveness. At 1st base, Albert has soft hands, good footwork around the bag, and he plays through well. He has accuracy to his target, and can improve by playing more low to high and adding arm strength. Offensively, Albert has a still head, a level swing, and he makes consistent contact. Hitting can improve with a better load, a shorter swing, and more lower 1/2.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
