Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

02/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Tomball (Houston), TX Alec continues to develop and has made several improvements in his game since we last saw him. On the bump, this RHP works to a tall balance point and has smooth separation. His side-arm delivery helps to create a little deception and will keep hitters a little off balance. FB now ranges from 68-72 mph as he pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with early action and 'sweeping' type break. Driving off of the rubber more with his lower 1/2 will help to get even more into his FB. In the OF, Alec hustles to track down fly-balls hit to his right and left. He tracks the ball into his mitt and secures it with soft hands. Developing a quicker first step will help to increase the amount of ground that he'll be able to cover. A 2018 grad - Bennett is a hard worker who still had time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex (Ages 12-14) Alec is a hustler who is very coachable. As an outfielder he has solid arm strength, sure hands and a good tall frame. He needs to play through the ball more, improve his lateral quickness/footwork, and continue to strengthen his arm. On the mound Alec showed a repeatable delivery, command of fastball, and good extension on finish. He needs to stay tall on backside, keep front side closed longer, and gather better over the rubber. At the plate Alec displayed good balance, bat speed and contact. He needs to minimize head movement and improve on his pitch recognition. Alec has a bright future ahead of himself.

11/16/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Houston, TX Alec is a tall, thin, 2-way player who plays OF and RHP. Defensively, Alec has efficient footwork, he reads the ball off the bat well, and he makes plays. He picks out good hops, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Alec has short arm action, he works to his balance point well, and he competes in the zone. At the plate, Alec has an athletic set-up, a level swing, and direct hands to the ball. He has proper separation, makes solid contact, and he can spray to all fields. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Sure up glove
2. Body control
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Mechanics
2. Arm action
3. Finish
Offense
1. Loosen grip
2. Lower 1/2
3. Load

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
