05/22/2016 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX This 2-way player is an athlete who continues to shine. With the bat, Alec stands in well with quiet/simple actions. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel on a direct path, squaring the ball up and hitting line-drives. At SS, he has prep footwork moving well on the balls of his feet. He moves fluidly right to left, funnels smoothly and has a quick exchange to throw. In the OF, he takes a quick 1st step tracking down fly-balls to his right and left with speed. Throws are strong with carry/accuracy into his target. Cruz continues to show his versatility as he can make things happen in many aspects of the game.

11/22/2015 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Alec is a hard worker who has really turned himself into a prospect for the next level. He has natural hitting instincts with a clean, direct path to the ball. He is most comfortable spraying line drives gap-to-gap but will also flash some power. His swing is well coordinated and balanced allowing him to generate some bat speed and square balls up consistently. As a defender, Alec shows the versatility to play the middle IF and the OF, though he is most comfortable at SS. He is fluid in the infield with a clean exchange, and he shows the ability to read the ball off the bat well and take good angles. His DP turns are very quick and efficient. In the OF he shows solid range and the same good body control on display in the IF. His throws carry well and are accurate. Overall, Alec takes this game seriously and continues to improve at a rapid rate. He is a solid young player to follow.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City While at Pirate City Alec proved that he is a hard worker and that he truly wants to get better. Physically he is on the smaller side right now but his skills are solid. As an infielder Alec can improve by working on his footwork (speed/agility/lateral quickness), continuing to soften hands and long toss for arm strength. In the outfield he displayed soft/sure hands, active feet and an athletic fielding position but he needs to work on lateral quickness and taking better routes to the ball. At the plate, Alec has an athletic setup, decent load, swing path is on-plane and he has a good line drive approach. As he matures physically he will naturally hit the ball harder, but in the meantime using the lower half and the mental approach to hitting are areas for improvement.

05/19/2013 - Interactive Video Program - San Antonio, TX Alec is a young, 2-way player with a thin frame. At SS, Alec has active feet, he fields athletically, and he centers the ball well. He has a good glove to the backhand, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a short / loose arm action across the diamond. In the OF, Alec has a good 1st step, he uses 2 hands, and he works through the ball well. Offensively, Alec has a square set-up, a short stride, and good balance. He centers well on contact and he uses some lower body. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Soften glove
2. Long toss
3. Throwing accuracy
Outfield
1. Square shoulders to throw
2. Use more body to throw
Offense
1. Rhythm / Timing
2. Level off swing
3. More lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
