03/24/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Harmony (Pittsburgh), PA Alec continues to shine on the diamond. At SS, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active and aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft / clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / clean to the plate. He works through a quick tempo and shows a 3 pitch mix and throws strikes with all his pitches. Fastball showed a range of 75-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a plus feel for pitch with arm side run. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in improving stock on the mound.

10/07/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Washington, PA Alec is a 2021 two-way player who shows impressive tools on both sides of the ball. He shows the makings of a true out pitch with his curveball that is sharp and can induce swings and misses. He has a quick arm in the mound and hides the ball to create deception and this combination makes him tough to hit. His fastball has life at 76mph and he compliments it with the swing and miss curve and a deceptive changeup. At short, he shows lateral agility and range to both sides with quick feet to get to the ball. He is athletic to field with presented hands and makes clean plays. At the plate, he shows smooth timing to stay on any pitch and use all fields. His bat is fast through the zone on a level path to make consistent contact and deliver the barrel. Letting the ball travel will allow him to make harder contact for extra base hits. Alec is a talented player we look forward to continue following.

06/23/2018 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Alec continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At SS, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He works around balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine, now displaying solid hitting / power potential through an open setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength and sprays the ball to all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. At the event, he was 3 for 11. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

03/25/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Harmony (Pittsburgh), PA Alec is an athletic and talented 2021 2-way position player. At SS, Alec has an active prep step and presents a lower/early glove. He plays through the ball and throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Alec starts in an athletic stance and loads his hands back into the drive position. He hits off a firm front side and stays balanced through contact. On the bump, Alec gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and finishes over the front knee. His loose arm action allows him to work north to south. Alec will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

02/10/2018 - Mid Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Alec is a hard working and talented prospect that made several adjustments during the hitting accelerated training weekend. At the plate, Alec loads his hands back into the drive position and stays balanced through contact. He has a middle approach and shows pull side pop. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and using the lower half will prevent him from getting around the ball. Alec will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Alec is a lean SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through a low approach. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 2 for 3 with a BB. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 63-66 mph Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. With 3 years to further develop, Alec has a lot of potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
