07/24/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Gaffney, SC Alec really improved his foot speed, now an outstanding runner as indicated by his 60 time of 6.82. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a lot of ground. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Feet are aggressive in working to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and work through a level / aggressive swing path. He works inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Power will continue to increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

03/20/2016 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Alec continues to show a promising future on the diamond. He showed at 2B and in the OF for the first time at the event. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process as he works to get behind balls. Feet are quick / active as he reads balls well off the bat, taking proper first steps. In the IF, feet are active as he works to square balls up. He makes the routine plays, displaying clean hands. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. At the plate, hands are quick and work through a level / aggressive swing path. He makes consistent hard contact as he works inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off bat when centered.

03/22/2015 - National Tryout - Greenville, SC Farmer showed only at 2B at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. In the MIF, defensive grade has really improved, displaying clean / smooth actions. He moves well laterally, especially to glove side, attacks balls through an aggressive approach, displaying clean hands, and shows off his athletic abilities on the slow roller play. Feet and hands work well together through the fielding process and gets rid of the baseball quickly. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an open setup and aggressive approach. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to load and works to use his lower half more efficiently.

09/13/2014 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 14-18) Commuter Alec is a strong, hard working player who has the ability to swing it. In the box he shows a mechanically sound swing with good rhythm, and balance. Alec also has the ability to use his hands well during the swing by keeping them inside the baseball, and hitting the ball well to the opposite field. He needs to continue to working on using his lower half, clearing his hips during the swing, and driving the baseball to all fields.

03/02/2014 - National Tryout - Greenville, SC Once again, Alec has shown improvements to almost all facets of his game since his last outing. Offensively, he showed good use of his lower half and stayed level with the barrel. He flashed quick hands and was coordinated with his hands and hips. Defensively, he was soft with the glove, quick with his feet, and accurate with his arm. He ran his best sixty to date - showing signs of increased foot speed and overall athleticism. All-in-all, Alec remains a projectable player with years left to improve his game for high level play.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Farmer continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where Alec has improved the most through a squared / athletic setup. He loads well and attacks the baseball with his hands through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. He is aggressive and makes good adjustments at the plate. At 2B, he works to squared ball up and displays clean hands. He moves well laterally, flashing range in the MIF. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more and play through more with his body while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to work to get rid of the baseball quicker and build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is scrappy, very coachable and plays the game hard.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Alec is a hard worker and is very coachable. As an infielder, he has soft hands, fluid/efficient footwork, and an athletic fielding position. He has a clean exchange and solid arm strength. At the plate, Alec displayed a smooth load, centered balance, good lower half, rhythm, swing path is on-plane and he uses the whole field. Areas for improvement are shortening the swing path and physically getting stronger. Alec wants to improve and seems willing to work. He possesses all the ability to be a good player in the future if he continues to work.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
