Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OFPosition Projection

08/05/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Alex worked out both in the OF and on the mound during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, Alex is aggressive to the ball, he reads it off the bat well, and he throws with life and carry to his target. He threw off the hill and showed good direction, solid control, and he fields his position well. At the plate, Alex has a tall set-up, fast bat speed, and he puts the bat on the ball consistently.

07/09/2013 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Alex is a tall, lanky, and athletic OF that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.45 60 time. Feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through an aggressive approach. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target and continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Biehn shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Alex has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
