Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

04/17/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Alex showed as a RHP and at SS for the first time at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At SS, he shows smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks balls and moves well laterally. Glove action is clean and he shows good body control. Presenting his glove more out in front will help to avoid getting the ‘in between' hop. Continuing to increase foot quickness will aid in improving range. At the plate, hitting / power abilities have improved through a squared setup. Hands are loose and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level as he shows a line drive type approach. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 60-64 mph. Breaking ball is a solid pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with tight spin and late breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches.

12/06/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Sacramento, CA Alex continues to work on his game. On the mound, this RHP is a strike thrower who fills up the zone. FB now tops out at 64 mph while showing slight cut. He works it to both sides of the plate. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with early action. Effectiveness will improve on his CB with a more consistent release point out in front. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to get more into his FB. With the bat, Alex shows a square setup with patience. He barrels the ball up and looks to drive the middle of the field. Finishing with more extension through contact will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Only a 2019 grad - Alex has tools with still a ton of time to develop to get to where he wants to be.

11/05/2015 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Alex is a young, lean RHP that will graduate in 2019. Delivery is repeatable as he uses his lower half well and allows his arm action to work long and well to the plate through a 3/4 arm slot. Fastball shows a range of 60-61 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with sinking action. Off speed stuff show potential as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level as he continues to develop. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Alex has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
