Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Alex continues to shine as a two-way player with a physical frame. Offensively, he worked direct to contact with pull side pop hitting 89 mph with his exit velo. He had strong hands through the zone and worked with his hands and hips together to accelerate the barrel. Defensively at 1B, he was very sure with the glove to make plays and finish them, with a outstanding stretch. He worked his feet to throw and had a good arm stroke. On the mound, he threw a sinking FB, an 11/5 CB, and a CH. He gathered over the rubber to balance, and worked directionally to the target to pound the zone working downhill. He worked ahead of hitters and mixed his pitches well to keep guys off balance. Overall - Alex fits the mold of a hard hitting 1B that has strengths defensively.

10/14/2015 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Alex is a strong, physical 2-way player. Projecting at 1B, he receives with a big target, mobile feet, and sure hands with balls in the dirt. He makes the routine plays and as he loosens up his footwork and actions around the bag, his defensive stock will rise. On the mound, he throws from the hi 3/4 slot with competitive actions. He attacks hitters with his 3-pitch mix and will see stock rise as he works on improving his off speed pitches and pitches with a firm front side. In the box, this RHH shows serious pull side pop with a simple swing. As he works to stay through the ball and work to the middle of the field, his offensive stock will rise. Overall, Alex possesses tools and a frame that will take him to the next level.

06/23/2015 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Alex is a versatile athlete who can make things happen in many aspects of the game. With the bat, this strong righty shows a balanced setup with quiet/simple actions. He has rhythm in his hands and works back into a loaded position. Swing is quick to and through the zone as he connects with strength, driving the ball to all parts of the field (exit velocity of 86 mph). At 1B, Alex has quick footwork as he moves well around the GB. He is sure handed and can pick it well. On the mound, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, CH) coming from an over the top arm slot. He works to a tall balance point with his arm working loosely & freely. He stays in-line toward the plate and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 78-79 mph while breaking ball has 12/6 shape with late action showing to be a solid out pitch. Alex (2017 grad) is a very talented player who has a bright future in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
