04/17/2016 - College PREP - Kentfield (San Francisco), CA Alex continues to show as a C/SS with a promising future on the diamond. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.21. Defensive abilities in the MIF are now well above average, displaying smooth / athletic actions. Feet are active / aggressive as he moves well laterally, displaying range. Hands / feet work well together as he get rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry on his throws. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.20 range Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Swing path is level as he shows good barrel accuracy with gap to gap pop.

10/28/2015 - Under Armour SoCal Classic, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Alex is a versatile athlete who showed well during his time at the SoCal Classic. Behind the dish - he communicates well and takes charge of his defense. Wrist is firm as he sticks pitches in the zone - framing well. Exchange is clean with accurate throws down to 2B with pop times now at 2.17. Offensively - Alex stands in well with a solid base. He has an aggressive approach and is looking to jump on 1st pitch FB's. Hands are quick as he connects and extends well through the finish. The ball jumps off of his barrel when centered (exit velocity = 83 mph). He seems to feed off of the pressure - knocking in a couple clutch hits at the event (2 doubles, a single and a walk). Alex (2017 grad) will continue to get stronger which will truly unlock his potential on the diamond.

09/06/2015 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Alex continues to polish his skills as a C/SS. Behind the dish, he receives with a soft mitt and large frame. He blocks the ball back to the center of the plate with solid lateral range. Throws to 2B show quick feet and a smooth transfer. His pop times (2.19) will improve by long tossing and working on accuracy. At SS, he continues to make the routine plays and throw with accuracy. He is a reliable fielder with a mature approach. At the plate, Alex uses his lower 1/2 and strong hands to drive the ball to the pull side gap. He shows consistent contact with his simple swing. Alex continues to improve and will see a bright future in between the lines.

12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Alex brings a positive attitude which rubs off of his teammates. He is a coachable player who is willing to make the necessary adjustments to his game to take him to the next level. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with a solid base. He has quiet/simple actions, waiting for his pitch. Swing path is short/direct to and through the zone as he connects with the ability to drive the ball the other way. Engaging and utilizing his lower 1/2 more will result in increased power at the plate. Behind the dish, this backstop receives with a soft mitt and sticks pitches in the zone. Lateral footwork is quick as he gets around pitches in the dirt and deadens them, keeping the ball in front. Continuing to increase his arm strength through a long toss program will help pop times to drop. A 'team first' kind of guy - Alex is one that coaches will want to have on the roster.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition in Arizona Alex is a hard working player who has a willingness to learn. Behind the plate, he sits in well and tracks the ball into his mitt. He has a quick transfer/exchange and works in-line toward his target at 2B throwing his lowest pop times at 2.21. He also played a little MIF as he works into an athletic fielding position. He fields the ball cleanly, gathers well and makes accurate throws to 1B. Working more on the balls of his feet will help to increase lateral range. Alex also has the versatility to play in the OF. He takes a quick first step and hustles to fly-balls to his right and left. He secures the ball at its highest point and gains ground toward his target. Offensively, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. Swing path is short/compact through a level path as he hits line-drives. He barrels up the ball consistently and hits 3 singles at the event. Working on his rhythm/timing will help to improve his abilities with the bat. Alex has a solid all-around skill-set with still a few years to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
