08/23/2009 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Alex is a two-way player as a catcher and on the mound with a tall, strong looking body that is well suited for both positions. Currently, he projects only as a catcher at the next level. Foot speed is well below average and he must get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness. Feet are active and work well in line to his target showing direction. Transfer and exchange are efficient. Pop times are in the 2.13 -2.25 range. Receiving skills are near above average through a solid, quiet set up. Glove action is soft and works well around the ball. Blocking next skills are average but need further development to play at the next level. Arm strength is solid average showing carry into his target. He will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength, lowering pop times. At the plate, Idlesias has solid average abilities and power through a solid setup. Swing path is level, flashing bat speed. He shows a feel for the barrel to the pull side due to long swing path. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-75 mph. Off speed pitches are slightly above average with stock rising on the mound if more arm strength is developed. Alex has potential behind the plate and will catch the eyes of some collegiate coaches in need of a catcher.
