Alex can benefit from added bat speed and a shorter swing path. He has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Alex also shows that he can go with the ball to the opposite field. Behind the plate, Alex is a big target and stays square to the pitcher. He has a stiff, high presentation. Alex receives the ball with a firm glove. He has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action. Alex has good momentum through his release throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He gains ground and shows accurate throws to 2B. Alex does a nice job blocking the baseball with quick, smooth footwork. Overall, Alex has skill on both sides of the ball giving him a bright future on the diamond.

12/02/2018 - College PREP - Sacramento, CA Alex is an athletic C/1B prospect who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Alex is quick to block and centers the ball in the middle of his body. He sits in a square setup and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and works to make accurate throws to 2B. Getting rid of the ball quicker can help Alex improve as a C. At 1B, Alex shows active footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He fields in a square position and makes a clean exchange to throw, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Alex can improve as a 1B by staying low when moving to throw. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He gets good extension through the ball and makes consistent contact. Working a smoother load into his swing can help Alex improve as a hitter. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
