07/29/2011 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2011 Alex is tall, athletic two-way player at SS and on the mound that will graduate in 2012. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.50 60 time as he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the MIF. Feet are active as he attacks ground balls but needs to play through more with his body. Hands are soft, clean displaying a solid glove action in making the plays. Throws show life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond as he throws from multiple arm angles. Offensively, Lopez shows a balanced approach with long, loose levers. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he works to stay through the ball at contact. Swing path gets long as he needs to work on staying inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. At the event, he was 3 for 12 with a 2B. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 83-84 mph with late life and arm side run. Breaking ball shows potential as being a quality pitch, displaying 11/5 shape with late, sharp action. He pounds the zone as he throws strikes with all his pitches, throwing to contact. Alex has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.
