06/10/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South Alex continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.82. At the plate, hitting abilities are now near a pro level. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (87 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remain in the low 2.00 range. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

10/15/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures South Alex is a natural hitter. His LH stroke is balanced, simple and under control both in BP and game situations. He has no wasted movement and very few holes in his swing, allowing him to catch up to velocity and react well to off-speed stuff. The swing is built for line drives and utilizes the entire field. As a defender, Alex is sure-handed behind the plate, has sound footwork and possesses an accurate arm throwing to bases. Overall, a quality left-handed bat at a premium position is what Alex brings to the table.

06/29/2016 - 2016 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National South This powerful LH backstop continues to shine. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times remains in the low 2.0 range. At the plate, Alex has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

10/17/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures South Marquand is a young left-handed hitting catcher with arm strength and the makings of raw power. Behind the plate, he showed good rhythm and coordination to his release, and his throws were accurate on the bag. He has some room to get the ball out of his hand a little quicker, giving him the potential to lower his release times as he develops. At the plate, he had some natural lift to his stroke and got the ball in the air with ease allowing him to drive the ball well to the pull side. He gets his hands and the barrel out away from his body some, setting up some length in his stroke - but he has good rhythm and hand-eye coordination, giving him a chance to hit with that type of stroke. Overall, has several tools of interest at present with the potential to develop further as he matures -- making him an interesting 2018 follow behind the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
