Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/13/2016 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Alex continues to work hard and makes strides in his game. With the bat, this righty has a balanced setup with patience as he waits for his pitch. Swing is compact as he is short to the ball, connects and gets good extension on his finish. At 1B, he hustles around the GB and into a square fielding position. He gathers well and gives accurate DP feeds. Continuing to develop his footwork and lateral quickness will help to increase range in the INF. On the mound, he keeps his eyes on the target and repeats well. FB now tops out at 66 mph. Changeup shows to be his best off-speed pitch as it has slight sink, which will result in GB outs. Finishing with more extension will help to improve effectiveness on all of his pitches. Alex is a (2019 grad) hard worker who still has a ton of time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

08/02/2014 - National Tryout - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Alex continues to work hard. At the plate, this RHH works back into a loaded position with a strong bat angle. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and will turn on it quickly, driving the ball to all parts of the field. Defensively at 1B, he shows active pre-pitch footwork playing on the balls of his feet. He moves well to his backhand and fields the ball smoothly. A 2019 grad - Alex is a hard worker who has a ton of time to develop.

07/07/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition Alex is a yound two-way player at 1B and RHP. On the mound he works over the plate, and can cotnrol his fastball and keep it in the strikezone. Alex needs to focus on improving his balance point and from there driving his backside through his target. Defensively, Alex is a firstbaseman who picks the ball very well and works hard to get outs around the bag. As he matures Alex will develop more athleticism and he needs to continue to work on situational defense. At the plate, Alex controls his barrel very well to make constant contact. He does need to level off his swing path and load his hands a bit more to improve in the box.

02/16/2014 - National Tryout - Monticello, IA Alex showed increased hit ability and power potential in his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Offensively, he tracked well and had a solid oppo approach - allowing the ball to travel. His overall balance was sound and he made contact. Defensively, he showed an accurate arm and flashed sure hands. In all - Alex continues to show some growth in his game from outing to outing, and will continue to improve with an arm strengthening program.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Alex showed the ability to make good adjustments at Pirate City. On the mound, he displayed a repeatable delivery with good command on the inner half of the plate. His arm action was free with good tempo. Alex can improve by working on the extension on his finish as well as reaching a taller balance point. Defensively, he fields square to the ball with firm hands and picks well for his age. Alex will improve by working on his footwork around the base and approach to the ball. At the plate, Alex is a solid contact hitter who doesn't miss much. He displayed a good load getting his hands back and foot down. Finishing his lower half backside heel over toe will improve overall power grades. Alex has pretty of time to improve as a player as he gets ready for high school.

07/08/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Minneapolis, MN Alex is a young, 2-way player who plays 1B and RHP. Defensively, Alex has is aggressive to the ball, his feet are playable, and he makes the routine plays. He keeps the ball in front, his exchange is clean, and he throws with consistency from a loose arm action. On the mound, Alex has a short arm action, he keeps his head on target, and he uses his lower body well. At the plate, Alex has a square set-up, a still head, and a short stride. He has a level swing, a direct barrel to the ball, and he makes consistent contact. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Pre-pitch actions
2. Field out front
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Separation
2. Finish
3. Pick up target sooner
Offense
1. Lower 1/2
2. Rhythm
3. Let ball travel

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
