07/07/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Trenton, NJ Matt continues to show as a C/3B with steady play in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the low 2.20 range as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Throws are accurate with times continuing to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to get more reps. At 3B, he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands through a low approach. Hands are soft / clean as he presents well out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a squared / athletic setup as he tracks balls well. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to be on time and keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

12/20/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Alex is a R/R, 3B who has a solid/strong build. At 3B, he shows excellent pre-pitch readiness and approach as he knew how to position himself to defend effectively against the different types of hitters. A quicker first step will allow for increased range to his right and left. Offensively, he shows a balanced/square setup and aggressive approach. He delivers the barrel with very quick hands, good leverage with the lower half and flashed power to the gaps. He is a respectable player who works hard and gives his all on the diamond.

10/05/2014 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Alex has showed in his most recent Baseball Factory outing that he can make adjustments. At the plate, he tapped into his lower 1/2 and now drives the ball to the gaps. Continuing to work to get extension and loosening up his hands will improve his abilities at the dish. Defensively, he worked hard blocking balls in the dirt and delivering accurate throws to 2B. At 3B, he showed a great amount of energy, working low to high in an athletic stance. He fielded the ball out front, made a clean exchange and threw with accuracy. Alex continues to show improvement and will impress coaches in the years to come.

07/17/2014 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 2 Alex showed his best offensive ability to date at the Cape Cod Select Training & Competition with Baseball Factory. Offensively, he got himself to an athletic hitting position with activated hands. He generated good bat speed and gets off his backside. Loosening his grip and driving more with his lower will enable great hit ability and power potential. Defensively, he did a nice job of communicating and sat well in his stance. He was active to receive and was quick to move down and block. He flashed his best pop to date - 2.15 seconds - with potential to improve further with added arm strength and fluidity with his body. All in all - Alex is a great kid that respects his teammates and coaches, and is very coachable.

03/09/2014 - National Tryout - Hightstown, NJ Alex continues to work hard on his game. Behind the dish, he sits in well with quiet actions. He has quick footwork and gets around pitches in the dirt. On throws down to 2B; he replaces his feet well and stays directional toward his target. With the stick, Alex is aggressive and takes a strong cut. He squares the ball up and drives it on a line. Letting the ball travel into the zone will help him to use the whole field. Only a 2016 grad - Matt has skills and will only continue to improve.

11/08/2012 - Baseball Factory Training & Competition at Pirate City Matt is an athletic C/3B that will graduate in 2016. Behind the plate feet are active working in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times were in the 2.32-2.59 range as he needs to work on gaining ground, and building more arm strength to continue to lower times. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools that will play well at the next level as he continues to improve. At 3B, he works to square balls up while presenting clean hands. He needs to play through more and increase foot quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Matt shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through level swing path to and through the ball. He shows a fee for the barrel with power numbers improving as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable, plays hard, and has a solid feel for the game. With 4 years to further develop, Alex has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
