  • C/2BPosition Projection

08/08/2011 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Alex is a lean, athletic, 2-way player that catches and plays 2B. Behind the plate, Alex has a good idea, he has direct eyes to the ball, and he is an average receiver. He takes good angles when blocking, drops to the ground quickly, and is not afraid to get in front of the ball. Alex has good life in his body, he gains ground well, and is online to his target. Catching abilities can improve if Alex can quicken his exchange and add arm strength. In the INF, Alex has a solid approach, decent lateral movements, and good flexion. He has a decent backhand, okay transfer, and he throws with good accuracy to his target. If Alex can quicken his exchange and field the ball in better rhythm, INF skills can get better. At the plate, Alex is a strong hitter with a line drive approach. He has good balance and he puts the ball in play. Hitting can get better with an improved load, less head movements, and better use of his lower 1/2.

06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Alex lowered his 60 time from 7.9 to 7.65 and increased his arm velocity from 72 to 78 MPH during his time in Omaha. Alex has solid skills behind the plate with good body control, solid lateral movements, and a soft glove. He has good energy, works with his pitchers well, and has accurate throws. Offensively, Alex has a balanced set-up, a positive approach, and swings in good rhythm. He has some separation, puts the ball in play, and has pop to the pull side. Improved hitting could really elevate Alex's game to the next level.

12/27/2010 - Christmas Camp and Tournament 2010 - Session 2 Morrow continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by staying on a speed/agility program to continue to improve foot quickness. Blocking and receiving skills have really improved. He utilizes his feet well in getting down and around balls in the dirt through the blocking process. He sets up well with hands working around the ball and sticks in the zone. Arm strength has improved as he threw his best pop time to date at 2.33. Pop times will continue to lower as he cleans and polishes up his transfer / exchange to aid in getting rid of the baseball quicker. Throws are accurate, flashing carry through his target. He handles a pitching staff well and can call a game. Offensively, Alex shows a solid setup with rhythm as he tracks the ball well. He shows an aggressive approach with hands working through a level swing path as he makes consistent contact. Power numbers will continue to increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. Makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and plays with confidence.

08/09/2010 - College PREP - Dublin (Columbus), OH Alex showed as a two-way player at C/2B who graduates in 2012. Behind the plate he showed some life and does well gaining ground. His throws take effort through a long exchange as his pop times ranged from 2.39-2.60. He needs to work on having a quicker exchange and follow through on his throws. Receiving, he tends to show a high target with hard hands. Blocking, he kicks back and gets okay angles with heavy feet. He needs to be lighter on his feet, soften his glove, and work to get around balls. At 2B, Alex needs to have better rhythm and pre-pitch movement. He showed a long exchange when turning the double play which he will need to improve to play 2B at the next level. Offensively, Morrow has a huge load with too much movement in the box. He needs to try and simplify his approach which will help him have more consistency making solid contact. With hard work, Alex should continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
