Official Scouting Report

  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

07/10/2018 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Alex is a hardworking RHP/1B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Alex has balanced mechanics throwing from with a sidearm slot. He has a loose arm action and lands open to home plate. He can benefit from a longer stride and finishing with his chest over his front knee. Alex has good sink movement on his fastball and a deceptive changeup that mimics the movement. Offensively, Alex has an open setup with a centered balance. He has a long stride as he partially uses his lower half throughout his swing. Alex has a direct swing path and maintains a level barrel through the zone. He does a nice job engaging his front shoulder in his swing. Alex is a line drive type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Alex works hard and makes the routine plays. He fields the ball in a high position with deep hands. He has a long exchange and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. His throws can benefit from playing through the baseball. Overall, Alex is a balance prospect who has potential to get better with development.

06/10/2018 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Alex is a lean RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point. Fastball showed a range of 66-67 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Alex has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
