11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Alex is a 2017 graduate with a big frame who plays RHP and 1B. On the mound he displayed a high 3/4 arm slot, a controlled balance point, smooth separation, and he was in line. His FB topped out at 61 mph in Pirate City and he showed command with it. In the infield Alex has accurate/sure feeds and good pivots. He also showed the ability to field the ball but his body position and his hand placement make it difficult for him to succeed. Most importantly he needs to get down more and get his hands out in front of his body. This will give him a much better chance for success as a fielder. At the plate Alex has a short stride, hands back load, he makes hard contact and he uses the entire field. Squaring his feet in his stance will help give him more athleticism as a hitter, he can use his lower half more and his swing path needs to follow through. Alex has the size and hits the ball hard, if he makes those small adjustments he can be a solid hitter. If he chooses to put the work in on his fundamentals he can be a good player at the next level.
