11/10/2016 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Alex showed in the OF and on the mound for the first time at the event. In the OF, he communicates well with other outfielders. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls. He will benefit by playing through balls and working to get rid of the baseball quickly. Range will increase as he improves his foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Pop is best shown to the pull side. Power will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 56-57 mph with a 3/9 breaking ball. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in further development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a hard worker, very coachable, and is a solid team player. He plays with high energy.

08/28/2016 - College PREP - Farmingville (Long Island), NY Alex is young OF prospect graduating in 2019 who continue to show improvement on the baseball field. Defensively, Alex takes good angles to get behind the baseball. Alex works to present and soften his glove upon receiving. He will see improvement on his throws as he continues to work on playing through the baseball. At the plate, Alex has a tall, square stance and takes a short stride. He produced solid contact to all fields. The addition of a load should enhance Alex's timing throughout his swing. Alex is extremely coachable and has the right attitude to continue to develop into a solid prospect.

05/24/2015 - College PREP - Wappinger Falls, NY Alex is a lean OF/3B that will graduate in 2019 with a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and utilizes two hands well through the catching process. He needs to be more aggressive and work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive abilities. At 3B, he utilizes his feet well in his lateral movement displaying range and works to get around balls, displaying clean hands. Feet and hands work well together through a low as he attacks balls and plays through balls while presenting hands out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to present hands more out front and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently and adds overall body strength. He has a strong recognition of the strike zone. With 4 years to further develop, Alex has a lot of potential with time and room to continue to develop.

08/31/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Alex continues to improve, and taking what the coaches tell him and apply it to his swing. Shows great posture and balance in the set-up, but also takes the balance into the swing, finishing well balanced consistently. Alex is only going to improve with growth and strength the limits he does have with the bat is due to his size and strength. One thing that I would like to see Alex work on in the future is his rhythm and tempo in the swing. He tends to be slightly robotic during the swing, which leads to some timing issues. He needs to allow some pre-swing movement, with rhythm and tempo that will carry into the swing.

02/23/2013 - Hitting Accelerated Training Weekend (Ages 12-14) Alex displays great control of the bat for his size. His swing is only going to improve with growth and maturity. Alex shows the outstanding ability to understand the swing overall and understand his swing in particular. Alex needs to focus on his contact points, he tends to get the baseball to far out in front, which causes him to reach and roll over at times, and with his size he needs to let the baseball travel so he makes contact in the strongest contact position possible. Also Alex needs to focus on driving the barrel through contact, he tends to give up on the swing after contact happens, if he drives through the baseball he will get the most out of his swing.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
