10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Alex continues to show the makings of a special type player at the next level. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event. At SS, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range in the MIF and attacks balls playing through well while presenting hands well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Throws are accurate with on line carry as he works to get rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a plus feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-80 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch. He maintains good composure and competes on the bump. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/20/2017 - College PREP - Dickinson, ND Alex is a talented shortstop prospect who has a tall, lean build and graduates in 2019. In the field, Alex plays with quick footwork and agile actions covering a wide territory in each direction laterally. He fields the ball athletically with soft hands. Alex has a quick exchange leading into a long arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release showing strong, accurate throws across the diamond. As a right-handed hitter, Alex has a tall stance with a centered balance. He has fluid rhythm with a good load and on-time stride. Alex shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path consistently landing the barrel to the baseball. He has an aggressive approach and gets good hip action. Alex has the ability to drive the ball to each gap. Overall, Alex has skill and the right approach on both sides of the ball to give him potential to make a difference maker at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
