11/18/2012 - National Tryout - Germantown (Memphis), TN
In Alex's most recent Factory outing, he showed great improvement in his hitting ability. At the dish, he showed a good balanced setup, smooth load, short/square stride and full use of his lower half. Alex made consistent contact with decent bat speed. He can continue to improve his hitting by shortening his swing, being more on-time, and learning contact points. Defensively, he has good hip flexion, displays an early target, and showed good catch & hold ability. He tracks the ball well and deadens balls while blocking. Implementing a throwing/long toss program will help to improve his arm strength and use of his lower half with his throws. Overall, Alex continues to show improvement to his game, and as he continues to physically mature, will be a good prospect when his time comes along in 2016.

05/27/2012 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN
Alex is a young catcher that will graduate in 2016. Feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. He gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy on his throws. Pop times are excellent for his age, showing a range of 2.14 - 2.26 with times lowering as he builds more arm strength. Receiving / blocking skills are quality tools that will play well at the next level. He shows an athletic setup with soft hands and shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process. At the plate, Shipman shows a balanced approach with rhythm. Swing path is level and he shows a solid feel for the barrel, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he adds more overall body strength. With 4 years to further develop, Alex has a lot of potential with the makings to be a solid player as he continues to get more reps and improve.
