01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Walton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive abilities are where he has improved the most, now displaying outstanding abilities. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he moves well laterally, displaying range as he covers a ton of ground. He displays smooth / clean actions with hands / feet working well together through the fielding process, showing big play potential. Throws display accuracy and on line carry through a loose arm action as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and through a short / direct path. He works to stay inside the baseball, utilizing all fields and makes consistent hard contact.

07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Alex showed only in the OF at the event and continues to show the makings of a solid collegiate player. In the OF, he displays plus range in the OF as he utilizes his quick feet well in covering a ton ground. He reads balls well off the bat, takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls, and works to get behind balls, playing through well with momentum to his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. He has improved his power grade now displaying well above power potential. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered as he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

05/04/2014 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Alex continues to work hard on the diamond. This speedster makes this happen both offensively and defensively. At the plate, this RH swinger shows a square setup with good balance. He waits for his pitch and jumps on it when he sees it. In the OF, he can cover some ground as he works light on his feet. He has a clean exchange and works in-line toward his target. Alex has skills that will make an impact on the diamond.

07/31/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Walton showed as a SS plus in the OF for the first time and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now showing well above average hitting abilities with solid average power through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. At SS, he moves well laterally, displaying range and works to get around balls, presenting soft / clean hands well out front. He utilizes his feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind, playing through well with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is a great teammate, works hard and is very coachable.

05/05/2013 - College PREP - Adrian, MI Alex is an athletic SS that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.42 60 time. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and looks balls in, displaying clean hands. For defensive grades to continue to improve, he needs to attack ground balls more, stay low, and present hands more out front. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Walton shows a squared, athletic setup with balance and tracks the ball well. Hands are loose / smooth and he makes consistent contact with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to level out swing path and improve bat speed. With 2 years to further develop, Alex has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he improves.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
