09/03/2017 - College PREP - San Francisco, CA Alex continues to show the makings of a special type player with improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensive abilities in the MIF are now outstanding as he displays quick, athletic actions. Feet are aggressive in his lateral movements, showing plus range with a solid backhand. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, hitting abilities are now well above average through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing through a line drive approach.

07/19/2017 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Alex is a strong, well-built 2B/SS prospect who has a talented skill set and graduates in 2019. As a right-handed hitter, Alex has a closed setup with a firm front side and his weight in the front of his stance. He takes a good load with a long stride. He maintains a simple lower half and gets good rotation with his core through his swing. Alex has an effective high finish. He is a contact type hitter who looks to put the ball in play. In the field, Alex plays with effective footwork and an aggressive approach attacking the baseball. He presents his glove and fields the ball in the center of his body. Alex has quick hands with a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball producing consistently, online throws across the diamond. Overall, Alex has talent with the right approach on both sides of the ball giving him high upside on the diamond.

10/16/2016 - College PREP - Santa Rosa, CA Alex continues to show marked improvement on the field, most notably in his arm strength with higher raw velocity and a few ticks on his fastball that will help the pitch play up. He has a square setup at the plate and loads to a powerful bat angle with an on time stride to launch. His weight transfer is balanced and he finishes with a firm front side to make consistent contact to all fields. At short, he does good work pre pitch to get in the best position to make a play with agile lateral movement. He fields square to the ball with his hands presented out front and is comfortable going to his backhand, throwing with online carry to his target. On the hill, he features three pitches from a 3/4 arm slot that generates some deception and natural arm side action. His lower half works well with good hips and leg drive and he picks his target up early to help with command. Staying direct to the plate will create a better angle on his pitches and make it harder for hitters to pick them up. Alex is a prospect we will definitely be watching as he continues to progress.

06/25/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Alex continues to show a promising future on the diamond and continues to show improvements in his baseball tools. In the MIF, defensive abilities are solid, displaying smooth, fluid actions. Feet are quick as he moves well laterally, displaying plus range in the MIF. He plays through balls and presents glove well out front. Hands / feet work well together and he shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds / turn of the double play. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 70 mph. Fastball displays good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

12/27/2015 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Alex worked well as both a SS/RHP at the Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic. Defensively, he moved well to the baseball with active feet and showed some rhythm to field. His glove played sure and he threw on-line to his target. Offensively, he was aggressive to swing, rotating his core to help generate torque and bat whip. He worked with some backside strength and during the cage rotations loosened his grip, which ultimately loosened his upper half/shoulders, allowing for more strength at contact. On the mound, he threw a FB, 11/5 CB, and CH with sink. He gathered over the rubber well to start his delivery and kept his head on the target to pound the zone. In all - Alex is a young freshman that will develop more strength over the next couple of years that will translate his fundamental skill into very strong ability.

10/18/2015 - College PREP - Santa Rosa, CA Alex is a talented, young athlete who is a 2-way player as a SS/RHP. Offensively, this RHH shows a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Hands are quick as he whips the barrel through a level path and works to engage his lower 1/2, driving the ball with some pop. He hits the ball where its pitched and utilizes the whole field. At SS, Alex takes a quick first step and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He fields the ball with soft/sure hands and has a clean exchange to throw. On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and clean arm action. He stays directional toward the dish, maintains level shoulders and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 67-68 mph as he can hit his spots and throw strikes. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape while changeup has some tail. Getting on a long toss program to help increase arm strength will aid in his development on the mound. Only a 2019 grad - the future looks bright for this young star.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
