Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

11/12/2017 - Interactive Video Program - North Charleston, SC Alex is a young, R/R (2023 grad) 2-way player as a C/RHP. With the bat, this RHH displays a square setup with centered balance. He waits for a pitch he likes, swings on a short/compact path and engages his lower 1/2 well. Behind the plate, he sits in and tracks pitches into his mitt. He works hard laterally to body up pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Throws to 2B are accurate with pop times as low as 2.78. On the mound, Alex has a 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He works to a tall balance point, has smooth separation and works in-line towards the plate. FB tops out at 63 mph while showing slight sinking action. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape while CH has slight run. Continuing to work on the following will help to improve his overall skill-set on the diamond.

Offense
1. Contact points
2. Increase bat speed
3. Finish with extension
Catching
1. Lateral quickness
2. Gain ground to throw
3. Transfer/exchange
Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. More glove-side lead/tuck

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
