ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

06/20/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Ruiz showed on the mound and in the OF for the first time at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.28. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he covers a lot of ground. Reads off the bat are solid as he gets good jumps and plays aggressively through ground balls. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Swing path is level as he works on time as he keeps hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he had a good tournament going 3 for 7 with 2 2B. On the mound, fastball was in the mid 70 range with solid arm side run. Off speed stuff show as tremendous pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command / control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, pounding the zone. He has 3 strong pitches with stock continuing to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/15/2015 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Alfred is a LHP who has an athletic frame (5'10"/160). On the mound, this lefty throws 3 different pitches (FB, CB, CH) from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose arm action. He works to a tall balance point and drives off in-line toward the dish. Actions are short/compact with good glove side lead. FB ranges 75-77 mph while showing tail. Braking ball has 2/8 shape with gradual action. Working to utilize his lower 1/2 and drive off of the rubber will help to get more into his FB. With the bat, Alfred shows a square setup with quiet actions. He has rhythm in his hands as he delivers the barrel on a level path through the zone. Swinging on a shorter/more direct swing path will result in harder hit balls. Only a 2018 grad - Alfred has tools to work with and a lot of time to still develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
