06/20/2015 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Ruiz showed on the mound and in the OF for the first time at the event and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an above average runner at 7.28. He utilizes his quick feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he covers a lot of ground. Reads off the bat are solid as he gets good jumps and plays aggressively through ground balls. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. At the plate, he shows a squared setup with balance. Swing path is level as he works on time as he keeps hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he had a good tournament going 3 for 7 with 2 2B. On the mound, fastball was in the mid 70 range with solid arm side run. Off speed stuff show as tremendous pitches that will get outs at the next level. Command / control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, pounding the zone. He has 3 strong pitches with stock continuing to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.
