01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Alvie showed solid offensive and defensive grades during the UA Preseason All-America Tournament. He is a talented young player with quick feet, good range, and a soft glove. Alvie fields out in front and through the ball. He has a very clean exchange. He has a loose arm action and throws with accuracy and carry to his target. Offensively, Alvie has good weight distribution, proper balance, and has plus bat speed. He keeps his hands high, has a level swing, and nice pop in his bat. Alvie is a solid player with a bright future and he would be a great addition to a college program.

09/22/2010 - Under Armour Fall Classic - 2010 At just 15 years of age, James features an advanced set of tools. He ran 6.91 in the 60yd dash, slightly down from the 6.81 we saw previously. At the plate, he featured a simple and easy swing with excellent hand eye coordination. He maintained his balance very well from stride through contact, and did a great job of getting the barrel to contact. His stroke is a line drive type, and he has some gap power that will develop as he physically matures. Defensively, his actions were crisp and simple, and he maintained his body control very well. His arm stroke was compact and fluid, and his release was quick when necessary. Is somewhat new to 3B, but he played the position very well and seems to be a standout in the making. Overall, an immensely talented young player with a very bright future.

07/21/2010 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Alvie is a strong, athletic, SS with solid skills. He was timed at 6.81 in the 60, and clocked at 84 MPH on the gun. Defensively, Alvie has a good set-up, good hands, and good footwork. He works from the ground up, has a soft glove, and he makes plays. Alvie can throw from multiple arm slots and throws accurately across the diamond. If Alvie can lighten his feet, and quicken his exchange, defensive numbers can further improve. Offensively, Alvie has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy. He has a short / compact swing, tall backside, and stiff front leg. Alvie gets good extension through the ball and makes very good use of his lower 1/2. If Alvie can lower his hands and avoid diving down at the ball, offensive numbers can get even better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
