Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

07/28/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Alvin lowered his 60 time and increased his radar velocity during his last workout in Pirate City. In the OF, Alvin showed active footwork, firm hands, and he reads the ball off the bat well. He moves with agility, stays behind the ball, and throws with a strong arm with consistency to his target. Offensively, Alvin has a crouched stance, a short stride, and he keeps his head on the ball. He has quick hips and decent bat speed through the zone. Hitting is currently best from the right side.

02/26/2017 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Alvin is a lean, athletic OF/LHP who will graduate in 2018. In the OF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. He utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he is a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He makes consistent contact with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 60-63 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but speed variation is too close to fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Alvin has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
