Official Scouting Report

  • OFPosition Projection

10/05/2022 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic (2025) Anderson is an athletic OF in the 2025 class. In the field, he has effective footwork and centers his body to the baseball. Fields in an athletic position and has pocket feel. His exchanges are clean and uses loose arm action. Releases from an over-the-top slot and feeds are accurate to the target. Throws are on-line (77 velo) and have depth. Registered an outstanding OF assist from RF in game action. At the plate, he begins in an athletic stance and is on time with the pitch. Separates well and stays inside his feet. Gets his backside through and barrel is on-plane. Generates contact and makes the defense work with his batted balls in play ratio. Overall, Anderson has a high skill set and scouts are eager to see his he progresses in the game.

05/01/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Little Elm, TX Anderson is an OF who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame lean build with strength present. In the OF, efficient footwork who showed good instincts as he worked behind and through the baseball. He creates good angles and fields from a square fielding position with a clean gather on his left side. Made consistent throws, with good momentum towards target, and an arm velocity up to 79mph. At the plate, he sets up with an athletic and open stance. He gets knob to C, with ability to keep his hands inside, and is balanced at contact. A short barrel path enables him to spray balls consistently to all fields with a bat exit velocity up to 80mph during his round of BP. With 3 years of continued growth and development, we foresee Anderson making huge strides on the baseball field.

10/13/2021 - Arizona Freshman Fall Classic Anderson is an OF/RHP in the class of 2025 who we had a chance to see during the Arizona Freshman Fall Classic. He has an athletic frame and shows great foot speed running his 60-yard dash in only 7.25 seconds. He shows active footwork and a good prep step. He works through groundballs and takes aggressive angles to get there. He shows a good first step as well. Keeps his throws low into the infield. At the plate, he does a very good job of staying balanced throughout his swing. He does a good job activating his lower half and hands with the use of a good load. On the mound, he does a good job getting to a consistent balance point. Works with good direction down the mound. He shows the ability to work down in the zone. Does a good job of getting separation. Best pitch was his curveball with 11-5 shape that topped at 58 MPH. Fastball was up to 69 while he showed feel for a changeup in the 49-51 MPH range. Anderson is a good player with another couple years of development before college.

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Rookie Pre-Season All-America Tournament Anderson is an athletic OF who continues to work hard on his skills. With the bat, he stands in with athletic/quiet actions, centered balance and smooth rhythm to load. He gets his stride foot down on-time, swings against a firm front side and on a short/direct path. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with some pop. In the OF, he has active prep and hustles right and left to track down fly-balls. He works into position behind the ball, tracks it into his mitt and has a clean transfer to throw. McLain has upside with still a ton of time to progress to get to where he wants to be.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
