Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

07/18/2011 - Team One Midwest 2011 Cole showed similar abilities as we had previously seen in Sauget, Illinois. Feet are active as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the OF with hands / feet working well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry on his throws. Offensively, Anderton shows a balanced approach with hands working through a level swing path through a line drive type swing. He needs to work on letting ball travel and work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph with late arm side run. Breaking ball displays downward shape with late break.

10/17/2010 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Anderton showed some improvements in his game during his last workout in St. Louis. He lowered his 60 time from 7.38 to 7.13, and still currently projects better in the OF than on the mound. Defensively, Anderton has soft hands, fluid footwork, and he moves athletically to the baseball. He controls his body well, plays through the ball, and throws with a loose arm action, accurately to his target. On the mound, Anderton has good balance, his separation is on time, and he keeps his arm speed the same with all of his pitches. His CH showed good improvement, he attacks hitters, and he works down in the zone. Anderton can continue to improve mound effectiveness if he can improve his glove side lead and tap into more lower 1/2. At the plate, Anderton has a square set-up, short stride, and good balance. He has average bat speed, a short / line drive swing, and he puts the ball in play. Offensive numbers can further improve if Anderton can get his front foot down sooner and get more extension through the ball.

10/28/2009 - Arizona Fr/So Fall Classic - 2009 Cole continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.38 runner. Arm strength is now near above average as he showed solid carry and accuracy on his throws from the OF as he stayed behind and through the baseball with hands and feet working well together in getting rid of the ball quickly. At the plate, hitting abilities are now slightly above average with average power through a solid swing path. He has strength in his swing with ball jumping off his bat when centered as he was 3 for 12 at the event. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-81 mph with a solid average breaking ball. Changeup needs further development to be a quality pitch at the next level. Anderton is a great listener and willing to make adjustments to better himself.

10/18/2009 - College PREP - Sauget (St. Louis), IL Anderton is a young, 2012 graduate that shows as a two-way player on the mound plus in the OF with an athletic frame. Foot speed is near average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness. Feet are active and aggressive in taking proper routes /angles in tracking down balls in the OF as he works to get behind, playing through with momentum to his target. He has an idea in his OF play, displaying near above average defensive abilities. Arm strength is solid average as he shows some life and carry on his throws with hands and feet working well together in getting rid of the baseball. He needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength, raising velocities. At the plate, Cole has ability with near average power through a solid set up. He works to keep hands inside the ball but has some mechanical flaws that are hindering him from reaching his full potential at the plate with grades improving with instruction and adjustments. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 76-79 mph with slight arm side run. Knuckleball is best off speed pitch displaying dance and plus movement. Breaking ball is near above average showing a 12/6 shape with tight spin and late break. He needs to get instruction in his mechanics to aid in better direction and body control as he is young with room to improve. Cole has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities in the OF and on the mound as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
