02/04/2018 - College PREP - Houston, TX Andres is a broad, strong (6'1”, 215) catching prospect who is a wall behind the plate. He is an advanced blocker who slides well laterally to keep everything in front and block to center. His setup is relaxed and athletic and his footwork is active to drop and slide quickly. He receives quietly and with a firm wrist while showing a quick exchange and strong arm to post very low pop times (1.97 seconds). At the plate, his hands are strong on a direct bat path to consistently deliver the barrel and hit the ball hard. He stays balanced throughout his swing and has a strong lower half to show power to all fields. Staying through the ball will lead to more extra base hits. Andres is a talented player with lots of potential on the field.

02/19/2017 - College PREP - Sugar Land (Houston), TX Andres is a 2018 catching prospect who is built well and has the frame to handle the rigors of the position. He shows middle of the order potential at the dish with big power to all fields with lots of strength and a big hack as he looks to drive the ball. He gets on plane early with his strong hands and shows great bat speed, whipping it through the zone and barreling up the ball consistently. His lower half generates good power and he consistently hits missiles to all fields. Behind the plate, his big, strong frame lends itself to a big target and allows him to be a wall, keeping everything in front. He works to the edges of the zone well to buy extra strikes for his pitcher and shows quick hands to transfer and release when throwing to second (2.15 pop time). Improving footwork both to block and to pop up and throw is the last step to becoming a complete defender. Andres is an intriguing prospect who shows the makings of a strong prospect for the next level.

06/29/2016 - Under Armour Firecracker Classic 18U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Andres is an athletic catcher who has a bright future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times showed a range in the low 2.00 range. Throws display accuracy and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with outstanding arm strength. Receiving/blocking skills show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) creating bat speed through a direct/level swing path. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and asks a lot of questions. With 2 years to further develop, Andres will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
