Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Sosa showed at SS and on the mound for the first time with a promising future on the diamond, possibly as a two-way guy. In the MIF, he moves well laterally, displaying range and shows soft / sure hands. Feet / hands work well through the fielding actions, displaying smooth / fluid actions. Athletic abilities are shown off in his feeds / turn of the double play and has big play potential in the MIF. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 86 mph. Fastball showed a range of 84-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball is dirty displaying 11/5 shape with late / sharp break. Control is outstanding as he pounds the zone with a lot of strikes.

11/01/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures Texas Andres is a true baseball player with an extremely well-rounded game. As a hitter, he has very quick hands and outstanding eye/hand coordination that allows him to consistently square balls off the barrel. The ball shoots off the barrel with authority as he is very strong through contact. Andres has no problem handling velocity. As a defender he is a sure 2-handed fielder with soft hands and plenty of arm (91 mph) for the left side of the infield. His actions are natural and efficient, and he is the kind of dependable fielder that coaches want to anchor the infield. Overall, this is an exciting prospect that needs to be followed closely.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
