Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Andrew showed very good mound presence and pitchability during his time at UA Preseason All-America. He has 7 K's in 4 innings, and showed good extension and arm speed. Andrew has good balance, a quiet head, and has good direction with his front foot toward home plate. He pitches to contact and is not afraid to attack hitters. Pitching can further improve if Andrew can keep his front side closed and by working the corners of the plate, rather than the middle. Andrew did have a couple at bats, but is currently a Pitcher only.

08/05/2009 - Pirate City World Series - Session 2 Andrew continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities as he continues to show best on the mound. Fastball showed arrange of 79-82 mph with running action. He utilizes his body well in throwing on a strong downhill plane, creating tough angles on hitters. Breaking ball displays downward tilt with gradual break. He attacks hitters as he throws strikes with all his pitches. At the plate, Buss was 3 for 9 with a 2B at the event.

06/20/2009 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Andrew showed as a two-way player on the mound and at 3B but currently only projects on the mound where he has really improved abilities. Arm strength has improved as he topped out at 84 mph and he will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to continue to improve arm strength, raising velocities. Fastball shows tail and works on a strong downhill plane, creating tough angles on hitters. Breaking ball has improved showing 11/5 downward shape, tight spin, with late sharp break. He attacks hitters getting ahead in the count as he throws strikes with all his pitches. His body is well suited for the mound, showing projection as he continues to physically mature. Buss in now a class 5 pitcher and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

02/15/2009 - College PREP - Middleton, WI Andrew is big broad shouldered RHP who shows some command to his pitches. He showed a solid avg CH with decent feel and some sink. Both his SL and CH were slightly above avg. He did well staying focused on his target throughout delivery but needs to work on slowing his tempo some. Pitching more and relaxing will help his overall delivery and fluidity. He also hit and flashed some strength and will also benefit from enhanced fluidity. His strong body should allow for increased velocity as he matures physically.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
