Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 2B/RHPPosition Projection

06/19/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Katy (Houston), TX Andrew is a hardworking 2B/RHP prospect who has a versatile skill and graduates in 2018. As a left-handed hitter, Andrew has a square setup with fluid rhythm. He has a good load with a short, closed stride. Andrew shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path to produce hard contact. He stays inside the baseball and has a line drive approach. Andrew is a contact type hitter who shows power to the pull side. In the field, Andrew plays with fluid, effective footwork taking the correct angles to cover good ground. He gets around the baseball and fields it in a square, athletic position. Andrew presents his glove and has a quick, clean exchange leading into a loose, quick arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release and his throws are accurate with good strength across the diamond. On the mound, Andrew has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot with a quick, clean arm action. He extends through his release and stays square to home plate with a controlled landing at the proper stride length. He does a nice job rotating with his core finishing with his chest over his front knee. Andrew has a good tail movement on his fastball. His changeup is deceptive and his curveball has medium break. Overall, Andrew has a well-rounded skill set and upside to get even better with development.

07/11/2016 - Cape Cod Select Training & Competition - Session 1 Andrew is a great competitor that shows his passion for the game whenever he steps on the field. A primary pitcher throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot, Andrew does a good job of gathering over the rubber, separating on time and finishing with a good stride. He also throws 3 pitches, a 72-76 fastball with glove side tail and a well controlled changeup and curveball. Working directionally towards the plate better or "throwing down the hallway" will result in even better strikes. Also a shortstop, he shows quick feet and sure hands to compliment his plus arm. Keeping his body under control when the ball arrives to him will result in more consistency at the position. At the plate, line drives are the norm for Andrew, with a clean route to the ball resulting from a square stride, balanced setup, and a good load. Andrew does many things well and will be an impact player on both sides of the ball moving forward.

02/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Tomball (Houston), TX Andrew is a hard worker who continues to improve. On the mound, this righty works the ball in and out and is consistently around the zone. FB now ranges from 70-73 mph. Curveball shows to be best off-speed pitch as he has 11/5 shape with early break - 63-64 mph. Working to stride more square will allow him to get more push off of the rubber and add even more veto to his FB. At SS, Andrew has smooth/athletic actions working around the GB from right to left. He funnels to a clean exchange and makes accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, this righty has a line-drive approach. He engages his lower 1/2 well and likes the pitch on the inner 1/2, pulling the ball with pop. A 2018 grad - Andrew has skills with still time to progress.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Andrew is a right-handed pitcher who works in the mid 60's. He fills up the zone with multiple pitches and has a feel for both sides of the plate. He will see improvement by strengthening secondary pitches and maintaining a taller backside. At the plate, he fires his backside through and makes solid contact. He tracks the ball well, but will see an improved swing by getting more separation with his hands and refining his weight transfer. Defensively, he showed some talent at SS with an athletic stance and the ability to make the routine plays. Working with more energy and fluidity will improve his defensive skills. Overall, Andrew is a good kid that has time to strengthen and improve his game.

07/20/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Ages 12-14) Andrew is a good kid who showed a high knowledge of the game while at the CA Select event. As a fielder he has a nice approach to the ball (gets around), soft/quick hands and has good body control. He needs to reach a better pre-pitch position, continue to polish footwork/glove skills and long toss to increase arm strength. On the mound Andrew displayed a good gathering point, arm action and he throws strikes. Improvement can be made by staying in-line to the target, drive lower body through target and finish with more extension out front. At the plate Andrew is disciplined; he showed good rhythm, quiet/middle approach and stays inside the ball well. He needs to work on getting the barrel out front on inside pitches to open up the pull side and become stronger so he can drive the ball into the gaps with more consistency.

06/16/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Houston, TX Andrew is a young two-way player (RHP/SS) with standout defensive ability. At short, he showed efficient feet and good body control to get in a sound fielding position with his hands in front. He was sure to field and threw with good momentum to his target. Offensively, he got his bottom hand through contact and drove the ball to the middle of the field. He offered at strikes and had decent barrel accuracy. On the mound, he threw three pitches - topping out at 69 MPH with his FB. He was very athletic in his actions and mixed a CB and CH into his arsenal. Overall - Doyle is a young player with good high school upside as he enters his freshman year.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
