Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

10/13/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Andrew is a tall C/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Andrew shows efficient footwork and covers up well when blocking. He sits in an athletic stance and receives with soft hands. He makes a clean exchange and works to keep his throws accurate to the 2B bag. Long tossing to build up his arm strength can help Andrew improve defensively. At the plate, this switch hitter sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with decent bat speed, leading to solid contact. Andrew can improve as a hitter by working a smoother rhythm into his load. On the mound, Andrew gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He takes a proper stride and finishes with a controlled landing. Andrew shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 64-65mph with 10-4 break. Loosening his arm action can help Andrew improve as a pitcher. Overall, Andrew is a developing prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

08/05/2019 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Pirate City (Ages 14-18) Andrew is a strong, athletic catcher who will graduate in 2022. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show in the range of 2.50 with accuracy. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft and he sticks in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to get body down sooner. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be. With 3 years to further develop, Andrew has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
