07/17/2021 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 (MS) Andrew is a C/1B who will graduate in 2025. Medium frame and some strength present and room to add more strength. Behind the dish, showed a firm wrist and ability to track pitches to mitt. On-line throws from a high 3/4 arm slot, with an arm velocity of 65mph, and a best pop time of 2.70 seconds. A right-handed hitter, hits from an athletic and closed stance. Quiet head and level eyes enable him to track pitches well. Simple leg lift trigger, with fluid timing, and showed ability to drive the rear hip to contact. Hit line drives to all fields with a bat exit velocity of 75mph. Reached base 5 times, with a single, 2 base on balls, and 2 reached on errors during live game action. With continued growth and development, we foresee Andrew having a bright future on the baseball field.

12/12/2020 - Florida Regional Offensive Skills and Pitching/Catching Combined Weekend Andrew continues to shine on the diamond. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process but needs to work to get body down sooner. Pop times showed in the 2.84 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach.

11/01/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Bradenton (Tampa), FL Andrew is a C/3B prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. Behind the plate, Andrew receives with a firm glove and stays directional to throw, working to make accurate throws to the 2B bag. Sitting in a more square stance can help Andrew improve his overall catching ability. In the field, Andrew makes the routine plays and makes accurate, on-line throws to his target. Andrew can field ground balls more efficiently by getting into a lower fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes his stride on time. He shows smooth rhythm and drives through well with his lower half. He stays direct to the ball through a level swing path, producing solid contact to all fields. Working a simpler load into his swing can help Andrew be more controlled at the plate. With five more years to develop, Andrew has the time and potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

07/08/2020 - Official Player Development Membership - Bradenton (Tampa), FL Andrew is a R/R catcher who graduates in 2025. Behind the dish, he sits in and tracks pitches into his mitt. He works hard laterally and centers pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Throws down to 2B are on the bag - pop times at 2.83. Times will continue to drop as he works to gain ground and strengthen his arm (long toss). As a hitter, this righty has a balanced setup with patience. Swing is level as he works to engage his lower 1/2. Creating more extension through contact will help to increase pop off of the barrel. Only a 2025 grad - Montero still has a ton of time to progress on the diamond.

12/14/2019 - Florida Regional Offensive Skills and Pitching/Catching Combined Weekend (Ages 12-14) Andrew is a hard working 2025 catching prospect that made adjustments throughout the weekend. Behind the dish, Andrew presents a low target, he tries to work behind the ball, and he tracks the ball into his glove. He needs to continue to find a balanced position and work his thumb under the ball. When blocking he tries to control the ball with his chest. He needs to continue to lead with his glove, create an angle over the ball, and improve his hip mobility. When throwing, he needs to find an athletic secondary stance while protecting his throwing hand. Exchange the ball in front of his chest and gaining ground with his footwork will improve his accuracy to 2B. At the plate, Andrew starts in a tall and closed stance. He loads his hands back, he rotates his backside through contact, and he looks to hit the ball to the pull side. He needs to continue to get his front foot down on time, attack the inside part of the ball, and keep his head down at contact. Andrew will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

11/03/2019 - Interactive Video Program - Tampa, FL Andrew raised arm velocity to 57 MPH and exit velocity to 61 MPH during his last workout. He sits in squarely behind the plate and tracks to his glove. He tries hard to block, he keeps his feet moving, and has good direction when throwing toward his target. At 3B, Andrew tracks the ball to his glove and he fields in a square position. He flashes a clean exchange with some accuracy across the diamond. Offensively, Andrew has a closed stance, a short stride, and he stands in well balanced. He has fast bat speed, a direct barrel, and he uses his lower body. Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
