Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Andrew continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with the makings of a special type player at the next level. At 1B, defensive abilities are outstanding, displaying proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Range will increase when he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (81 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 83 mph. Fastball shows a range of 78-83 mph with late life. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with sharp / late break and shows as an outstanding pitch that will get outs at the next level. Control is outstanding attacking hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise when he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

08/02/2017 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Andrew continues to show as a prospect and has a tremendous future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. At 1B, he shows smooth clean actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure as he presents well out front. He shows off his athletic abilities on the 3-6-3 double play as he gets rid of the baseball quickly and recovers well. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break and shows as an outstanding pitch that will get outs. Control is well above average as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

03/19/2017 - College PREP - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Andrew is a talented 1B/LHP prospect who has an athletic build and above average skill set on both sides of the ball. In the field, Andrew plays with active footwork and agile body actions giving him the ability to move well. He fields the ball in a low, athletic position and presents his glove as he receives the ball with soft hands. Andrew has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick release and shows strong, accurate throws across the diamond. Offensively, Andrew has an athletic setup with a centered balance and firm front side. He has smooth rhythm with his load and takes a short stride. Andrew shows fast bat speed and he gets extension at contact producing consistent results. He is a line drive type hitter who shows most solid results to the pull side. On the mound, Andrew has a balanced, athletic delivery throwing with a loose, clean arm action from a high 3/4 slot. He extends through his release and has a controlled landing finishing with his chest over his front knee. Andrew commands his fastball at 78-80 MPH. His curveball is sharp breaking and his changeup is developing. Overall, Andrew is a projectable prospect who has the talent to be an impactful player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
