06/25/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Anthony is a coachable player who worked very hard on his skills during his time at the Omaha National World Series. He is very respectful and puts forth his best every day. As a hitter - this righty shows a square setup with rhythm in his hands. He lets the ball travel into the zone and hits it where it's pitched, spraying all fields. Working to create more extension through contact will help to increase power. He has good zone awareness as he drew 3 walks at the event. In the MIF, he has active pre-pitch actions and moves well into an athletic/low fielding position. He tracks GB's into a soft mitt and has a clean exchange to throw. Anthony is a solid all-around MIF who (2018 grad) will only continue to progress over the next couple of years.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Anthony is a R/R MIF who worked hard on his game during his time in Pirate City. At 2B - he hustles to his right and left into a square fielding position behind GB's. He makes the backhand play smoothly and has a clean exchange to throw (arm velocity now at 71 mph). Continuing to develop his foot speed and lateral quickness will help him to take the next step in the MIF. With the bat, Anthony has a balanced setup with patience, tracking pitches into the zone. He hits the ball where it's pitched with the ability to use the entire field. Getting loaded sooner and using more of his lower 1/2 will help to improve contact consistency and result in increased power. A 2018 grad - Anthony still has time to progress and physically mature to get to where he wants to be.

07/30/2015 - Baseball Factory Pro Select Training & Tournament at Historic Dodgertown Combs only showed at 2B at the event and improved his foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date. He utilizes his feet well as he moves well laterally, flashing range. Hands are clean and work on time as he presents well out front. He plays with a lot of energy and has a feel for the game. At the plate, he shows a closed setup with balance. Hands are loose and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He has strength in his swing with baseball jumping of the bat when centered. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Combs continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 68 mph. Fastball shows a range of 65-68 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with downward action and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program, works to throw more strikes, and develops another off speed pitch. At 2B, feet are active as he works to square up balls, displaying clean hands. He moves well laterally, displaying in the MIF and is aggressive attacking ground balls. Defensive grade will continue to increase as he improves his feeds / turns of the double play. At the plate, he shows an aggressive approach through a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with hitting grades improving as he works to get stride foot down to work on time. Power numbers will increase as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 7 with 2 BB. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/06/2014 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Anthony is a young, athletic, 2nd baseman with good skills. Defensively, Anthony has quick footwork, soft / sure hands, and he fields smoothly out in front of his body. He has good range, gains proper momentum toward his target, and throws with accuracy from a clean arm action to his target. Solid defensive skills can get better if Anthony can smooth out his actions, avoid rushing, and work to add arm strength. On the hill, Anthony has an athletic delivery, he keep his eyes on target, and he works quickly. He will need to use his lower body, get more extension on his pitches, and develop a more consistent release point for mound effectiveness to get better. At the plate, Anthony has an athletic set-up, good balance, and solid barrel accuracy. He shows good plate discipline, tracks the ball well, and makes solid contact on the barrel. If Anthony can let the ball travel deeper and work on his timing, hitting numbers will continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
