12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Salcido continues to show as a LHP and in the OF for the first time at the event. In the OF, defensive abilities are slightly above average, displaying smooth/athletic actions. He utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes/angles to track balls down. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls, playing through well. He moves well laterally, displaying range. Throws are accurate with carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic/squared setup and he tracks the ball well. Hands are aggressive and quick, flashing bat speed as he works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 3 for 8. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 66-70 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape, flashing sharp break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for with arm side run. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches as he continues to improve. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all pitches, pounding the zone. Stock on mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

10/19/2014 - College PREP - El Paso, TX Anthony is an athletic LHP who has a solid build. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and free/loose arm action. FB ranges from 73-77 mph while showing sink & run. Breaking ball has 2/8 shape as he controls it well and can spot up. Changeup compliments his FB well and is thrown with FB arm-speed. Increased velocity will come with more lower 1/2 drive. With the bat, Anthony shows a square setup with rhythm to load. Barrel delivery is level as he connects and hits line drives. Finishing with extension will help to increase power at the plate. Only a 2017 grad - this LHP will throw strikes and give his team a chance to win when he toes the rubber.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
