12/12/2021 - All-In Membership - San Bernardino, CA Anthony is a SS/RHP in the class of 2022 out of California. Defensively, he showed well at the event displaying light active feet with good pocket awareness and soft hands. He fielded the ball with momentum going towards his target which allowed for him to make accurate throws with a quick clean exchange. Offensively, he used an open stance with smooth timing to get to a good balanced position and stay on plane with his swing. He kept a consistent line drive approach and showed he could back spin balls to the pull side. On the mound, he exhibited the ability to throw 3 pitches for strikes. His fastball had a best velocity to date topping out at 82 mph while his curveball showed good depth and a change up that was deceiving because of his arm speed. Anthony is an athletic prospect who will soon, if not already, receive looks from college recruiters.

07/28/2021 - Baseball Factory Southwest Championships 17U Anthony is a coachable 2B/RHP prospect who showed well during the Southwest Championships. In the field, Anthony displays efficient footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into a square position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he gains ground well on his throws, showing great strength through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a soft stride. He is smooth to load and remains centered in his lower half. He works through a short swing and sprays the ball to all fields. On the mound, Anthony gathers over the rubber and is fluid separating his hands. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Anthony operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with arm side run and sinking action. Breaking ball shows 11-5 break. Changeup sits at 72mph with sinking action. Overall, Anthony is a talented prospect who has the skill set to contribute at the next level.

06/30/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Bernardino, CA Anthony is a 2022 graduate with a strong skill set on the diamond. He does a little bit of everything giving him a high-ceiling as he continues to move towards the next level. Defensively, he works from the ground up with rhythm, lightness in his footwork and quick-twitch actions. In addition, his 89mph arm shows tremendous carry across the diamond. Slightly-above average runner at 7.20 60 yard dash and 5.07 40 yard dash. At the plate, he gets his hips and hands through consistently and delivers the barrel on the regular (84mph exit velocity). With one year of high school remaining, Anthony is moving in the right direction.

02/12/2021 - Baseball Factory Opening Day Classic (HS - West) Anthony is a 2022 SS/RHP. Medium frame athletic build with plenty of physical projection remaining. Right-handed hitter, hits from an athletic and comfortable stance. Short stride into contact, gest his foot down on time well, loose and extended swing with some late whip to the barrel, has good bat speed with more to come as he gets stronger. Works gap to gap with some carry. Primary 2B, shows good athleticism in the infield on defense, fields cleanly out front with a good funnel, quick release on his throws. Throws from a 3/4 arm slot and showed arm strength of 87mph. Right-handed pitcher compact arm action with a simple low effort delivery. Low 80's fastball with occasional arm side run and throws his fastball for strikes. Curveball has 11/5 shape and pretty tight spin. Good all-around athlete who will continue to improve as he gets stronger. Two years of continued growth and development will bode well for his career at the next level.

07/14/2020 - All-In Membership - Lake Elsinore (Los Angeles), CA Anthony continues to shine on the diamond. Defensively, this athletic SS displays quick/active footwork and is aggressive to come and get the ball. Soft hands funnel the ball to a quick/clean transfer to throw. He has the ability to throw on the run from multiple arm slots (86 mph) across the diamond. As a hitter, this righty shows a balanced approach with fluid rhythm to load. He takes a hack on a level path, connects and creates some backspin, driving the ball on a line. Vargas has the skill-set that will make an impact as he approaches his junior year.

09/25/2019 - Arizona Sophomore Fall Classic Antony continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. At 2B, he displays smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry (85 mph velocity) to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve his foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (80 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound. Fastball showed a range of 75-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

09/08/2019 - College PREP - La Verne (Los Angeles), CA Anthony continues to show as a prospect on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. Defensively at SS, defensive abilities are now outstanding as he displays fluid / smooth actions. He shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Exchange is clean with strong throws. Backhand is smooth with a quick release with zip across the diamond (82 mph velocity). At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone through a solid line drive approach. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and works to get ahead, utilizing both sides of the plate. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

10/14/2018 - College PREP - Pasadena (Los Angeles), CA Anthony is an athletic, projectable built RHP/SS prospect who has a talented skill set. On the mound, Anthony knows what he is doing and works down in the zone. He has balanced, on-time mechanics throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a loose, clean arm action and extends through his release. Anthony stays square to home plate and rotates towards his target as he finishes. He commands both his fastball and curveball which shows tight spin. In the field, Anthony plays with effective footwork and pre-pitch actions. He presents his glove and fields the ball in a low position. Anthony has a clean exchange leading into a short arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are consistent with good carry across the diamond. Offensively, Anthony has an athletic setup with his weight in the front of his stance. He has smooth rhythm with a square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Anthony has an on-plane swing path and maintains a level barrel through the zone. He is a contact type hitter who has the ability to spray the ball to all fields. Overall, Anthony is a versatile skill set who has talent on both sides of the ball.

07/10/2017 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Anthony continues to show a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he displays smooth actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He reads balls well off the bat and works to get behind balls but needs to play through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an uphill swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 60-64 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late / sharp break and shows as a quality pitch. Control is solid as he throws strikes with his all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength will aid in improving abilities on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/19/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Monterey Park (Los Angeles), CA Anthony is an athletic OF/RHP who will graduate in 2022. In the OF, he displays active footwork as he takes quick lateral routes tracking down fly balls. He gets into a low/athletic fielding position and has a quick/clean to throw. On the mound, this righty has a repeatable delivery. He pounds the zone with his FB as he drives his lower 1/2 off the rubber. Offensively with the bat, Anthony presents a square/athletic stance in the box. He has a smooth rhythm to load as he drives pitches on a line. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
