01/17/2014 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Antonio is a solid, throwback type player with good skills across the board. As a hitter he has a pretty LH stroke that seems to always be on plane. He puts the bat in a consistent launch spot each pitch and is very clean through the hitting zone. He uses the entire field well and has good strike zone discipline. Antonio profiles an an above average defender at either corner OF spot. He reads balls well and is aggressive and confident when closing on balls. His hands are sure and his arm is accurate and has carry. Antonio can also jump on the mound to get outs. His low 3/4 arm slot, deception and three pitches for strikes make him especially difficult on LHH as a match-up guy out of the pen.

09/29/2013 - College PREP - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Antonio is a talented prospect in the OF. Offensively, this strong LHH shows smooth rhythm, getting back into a loaded position. He fires his lower 1/2 which helps to generate pop to all fields. He will be a clean-up type hitter with his ability to drive in runs. In the OF, Ortiz puts his athleticism on display as he can cover ground. He works behind the ball well, plays through, and fires the ball (with throws showing carry). Antonio has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
