07/25/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Avon (Cleveland), OH Ashton continues to show steady progress in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hands are loose and work through an aggressive swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he improves barrel accuracy and utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.40 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to improve flexibility and work to get down sooner.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Ashton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.36. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is soft as he sticks balls well in the zone but needs to present a lower target. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down sooner and improve his lateral movements. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball and shows plus barrel accuracy through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 66 mph. Fastball showed a range of 61-65 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with across break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/10/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Avon (Cleveland), OH Ashton is a C/LHP who will graduate in 2022. Defensively behind the plate, he displays a solid setup with a presentable target. He squares up low pitches in the dirt and comes up with a quick exchange to throw. On the mound, this lefty gathers over the rubber with a quiet body. He pounds the zone with strikes as he separates on time and stays in line towards home plate. With the bat, Ashton sets up square and gets back into a good load. He takes aggressive hacks through the zone as he drives pitches on a line from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

1. Quicker footwork
2. Develop soft hands
3. Arm strength (long toss)

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
